Old Saybrook Historical Society hosted a Civil War encampment day presented by Co G. 14th Regiment Connecticut Volunteer Infantry and their civilian ladies, on Saturday July 17th. The event was held at the Gen. William Hart House Museum and Archives. A large crowd turned out on the hot summer day to"step back in time" and watch volunteer soldiers in wool uniforms conduct firing and marching exercises. Ladies in period costume, portrayed civilian efforts that helped win the war.
Lt Paul Martinello and Cook Bill Mellow created a unique wedding memory for bridal couple, Don & Joelle Gruer of Fairfield, CT who were feted to a rifle salute and soldiers cheer.
The event was free to the public thanks to the generosity of Ralph and Gail Gometz , long time friends of the Old Saybrook Historical Society.
